About

Ampelaster Farm offers comprehensive ecological landscape design, installation, and maintenance services. Specializing in designing with Southeastern native plants, Ampelaster was founded in 2024 by Mikaela Murphy to bring ecological diversity to residential, commercial, and municipal landscape projects throughout North Carolina. Mikaela’s design process draws from numerous landscaping philosophies and traditions, from William Kent’s first informal English landscape gardens to modern permaculture practices. Mikaela received her B.A. in international studies with a minor in environmental studies from Hollins University in 2016 and has since completed graduate coursework in landscape architecture and information science. In addition to her education, Mikaela draws inspiration from her volunteer work with several local conservation and garden organizations to inform design decisions that authentically represent the ecological and human communities they serve.
